10 Tips for Your Most Successful Year Yet

With the new year in full swing, it seems like everyone has a resolution for 2018 in hopes of making it a happy, healthy, and prosperous year. Lifestyle changes such as eating healthier and getting in better shape, or financial ones like paying off debt and increasing income are some of the ones that we hear about often. Whatever your ideal year may look like, there are certain steps you can take in order to set yourself up for success.

Here are 10 of my tried-and-true tips for making 2018 your best year yet!

  1. Be YOU. Authenticity is so important, both in personal life and in business. Don’t do what everyone else is doing, and don’t waste energy worrying about what others think. The one person you whose thoughts you should care about? Yourself! Do what makes YOU happy.
  1. Discover Your Strengths. What’s your superpower, your greatest talent? Writing? Connecting with others? Making people laugh? As women, we often have a tendency to focus on what we suck at and downplay all of our strengths. For 2018, I challenge you to switch it up. Play off what you’re GREAT at instead of killing your confidence thinking about what you’re lacking. Then, if you haven’t already, figure out a way to use those strengths to your advantage and to reach every single one of your goals this year.
  1. Commit to Learning. I have been with my company for six years now and can honestly say that I learn something new every single day. There will never come a time that I know everything there is to know about my company, or networking, or social media – and that’s part of what I love about the work I do! It keeps me on my toes, and there are so many opportunities to better myself. Is there something you’ve been wanting to know more about, or learn how to do? Register for an online class. Read a book on the topic. Take some time to think about your interests and make a conscious decision to learn more about them.
  1. Check Your Attitude. Reflecting on 2017, was it a positive year? If your answer was “no”, why not? We’re allowed to have a bad day here and there, but it’s important to see the glass half full most days. Our attitudes have a trickle down approach, so you want to make sure yours is a good one! Think about all of the different ways that you can incorporate more positivity into your life over the next 365 days.
  2. Set Working Hours. In this digital age, many of us are working from our laptops and cell phones. Because of that, sometimes it can be really hard to draw the line between work and play. It’s so easy to reach for your phone and check that Facebook notification or read that email you’ve been waiting on. It’s vital, especially for us working moms, to set aside separate hours for our business and our loved ones. Do what you need to do carve out time dedicated to being with your family, and be sure to give them your undivided attention when you do.
  3. Get Outside. By this, I mean meeting new people, having face-to-face interaction and real, genuine conversation. Everyone spends so much time behind their screen. I’m guilty of it too! We must remember that at the end of the day, we are human beings who thrive on connections and relationships. Make an effort to step away from your computer, and get out into the world to talk about our joys, our struggles, our lives.
  4. Find a Partner. I talk about this often because I feel that it’s SO important to have someone (or a few someones!) to bounce ideas off of, discuss business plans with, and hold you accountable. For me, these people are my husband, sister, and all of the incredible women that I work alongside each and every day. It’s really difficult – almost impossible, I think – to become successful by yourself. Everyone could use someone to run things by, link arms with, and support them. Find that someone, and I guarantee you’ll see a world of difference!
  5. Set Goals. Small and big; both are so important! I set monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals. It’s so empowering to look back and see that you’ve reached them.
  6. Build and Foster Relationships. The key to this is to shift your mindset from selling to helping. I can’t begin to tell you how many people come into my business and lack confidence in their ability to succeed because they’re not “salespeople”. The truth is – You don’t need to be a salesperson; You simply need to like people and have the desire to help them. Instead of trying to sell, sell, sell, think “How can I fulfill a need?” instead.
  7. Do Something That Scares You. What makes you uncomfortable? Public speaking? Going live on Facebook? Attending networking events? Do the things that scare you. I’ve learned that getting out of your comfort zone is so important for personal growth. For years, the idea of launching my own blog terrified me but in 2017, I took the leap and launched it – and am so glad that I did!Here’s to hoping that 2018 is your gutsiest, glossiest, best year EVER!
